Indications of Clutch Trouble

In many cases, signs of clutch trouble become apparent because of issues related to the clutch pedal. If your clutch pedal feels spongy, then you could have a problem with the clutch fork. Another symptom of a faulty clutch fork is that your clutch pedal makes a bunch of noise as you engage and disengage it. Your clutch fork plays a central role in the proper engagement and disengagement of your clutch, so problems with it should be addressed ASAP. And if your clutch pedal feels sticky, then springs in the linkage may have become overstretched. A heavily vibrating clutch pedal could mean there's a problem with the flywheel, clutch disc lining, or pilot bearing. If your clutch disc lining isn't successfully gripping your flywheel, then significant vibrations may arise.

In addition to clutch pedal issues, there are some other signs of clutch trouble to be aware of. If you notice a burning odor coming from your clutch, then you've got evidence that your clutch is overheating, which may happen because of a worn-out clutch plate. Grinding is another cause for concern. Grinding suggests a problem with the throw-out bearing or pressure plate, and could also be a sign that your clutch plate is failing to properly disengage.
