Don't Put off Brake Repair!
Few things are as important as the brakes in any automobile. They are the best preventative safety system and allow for complete vehicle control. As with almost any other part of system on a vehicle they do need occasional maintenance in order to stay in good shape. Denying the brakes the service that they need will put you at risk of causing an accident because of your decreased stopping power. If you experience any of these signs of brake trouble be sure to head to your local auto repair shop to have the issue resolved right away!
Dashboard ABS Light
Your dashboard has several warning indicator lights, including the ABS light. ABS, which stands for anti-lock braking system, will illuminate if some sort of issue is detected by the sensors in the system. It may be that your brake pads are getting low or there is some other malfunctioning part.
More than likely the first sign of trouble you will experience if you need brake repair will be a grinding, squealing or whining noise that occurs when you hit the brakes. This is the sound of metal grinding on metal, which means that your brake pads have worn down and are due for replacement, now!
If your vehicle is suffering from uneven brake pad wear you may notice a pulling sensation, meaning your car tries to go left or right when you hit the brakes without turning the steering wheel. This can also be caused by a stuck wheel cylinder or impurities in the brake fluid.
A vibration that occurs when you hit the brakes is most often caused by a warped brake rotor. The rotor is what the brake pads grab in order to generate the friction that slows your vehicle. If the rotor is warped the surface area the pads can rub against is reduced, greatly decreasing your stopping power. Head to an auto shop to have them machined or replaced.
Soft Brake Pedal
A brake pedal that seems to have little resistance or gets stuck near the floor is a good indicator that your pads are very low. However this issue could be caused by something much more serious, such as air in the brake lines or a brake fluid leak!
Putting off brake repair is a dangerous thing to do. If your vehicle suffers from any of these symptoms make an appointment to have the brakes serviced right away!
